FAQ
HOW DOES THE eXtremeAir HAND DRYER WORK? Traditional hand dryers use a slower moving large volume of warm air to evaporate moisture from one’s hands. The low velocity of the air is slow to penetrate the surface tension of the water, resulting in long drying times. The eXtremeAir high speed hand dryer uses a high velocity jet of warm air to quickly break up this surface tension for quick removal and evaporation. The result is a drying time of 10 to 15 seconds. WHY IS THE eXtremeAir ENERGY EFFICIENT? It dries hands three times faster while using 1/3 of the electricity of traditional hand dryers. When in operation, the eXtremeAir gXt uses only 1500 watts of electrical power versus 2300 watts of a typical hand dryer. This adds up to an 80% reduction in energy. The new eXtremeAir eXt uses an industry leading 540 watts to dry hands in 12-15 seconds. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POWER AND ENERGY? It’s really simple: Energy = Power x Time Power is measured in Kilowatts (KW) Time is measured in Hours (h) Therefore, Energy is measured in KW x h or KWh Energy is purchased from your electrical utility in KWh. Therefore, to reduce energy consumption (and cost), use devices that use less power (KW) for less time (h). Note: the metric unit for energy is the KiloJoule, KJ and this is commonly used in environmental studies. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO OPERATE A HAND DRYER? You can calculate your operating costs by clicking here. Based on a cost of $0.10 per KWh for electricity, the eXtremeAir gXt costs about $0.42 per 1,000 hand dryings. The new eXtremeAir eXt costs $0.18 per 1000 hand dryings. HOW DO YOU INSTALL A HAND DRYER? Hand dryers are installed by your local electrician. The electrician connects the dryer to a dedicated line and fastens it to the wall. It’s a simple process that typically costs between $50 to $125 per dryer. You can reduce your install costs with the new eXtremeAir eXt series hand dryers. Up to 3 of these dryers can be connected to a dedicated electrical line. HOW MANY DRYERS DO I NEED? For average traffic washrooms, we recommend one dryer for each wash basin. For heavy traffic, use two dryers per wash basin. Use 4 dryers for each 54” wash fountain. HOW LOUD IS A HAND DRYER? Our dryers are among the quietest in the industry. The GX series has a sound level of 63 db – the level of quiet conversation. Click here to download more information. HOW DID THE eXtremeAir GET GREENSPEC® LISTED? GreenSpec® is an unbiased list of the most environmentally friendly products published by the editors of Environmental Building News. BuildingGreen does not charge for listings or for the review process, nor do they accept advertising. GreenSpec’s objective is to list only the top 5-10% of environmentally preferable products. The eXtremeAir hand dryer was approved for listing in the GreenSpec directory after reviewing our Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data, along with energy and raw material usage.
